Outside my window…mina birds call joyfully at daybreak, but not after the cement mixers on the property behind us begin their work.
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,100 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 52 trips to carry that many people.
WILLIAM FAULKNER was an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate from Oxford, Mississippi. Faulkner is primarily known for his novels and short stories set in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County, based on Lafayette County, Mississippi, where he spent most of his life. He wrote often about the Mississippi River and the people of the Deep South who were affected by her moods and yet depended on her for life. During one particularly bad flooding, he compared her to a mule when he said, “A mule will labor ten years willingly and patiently for you, for the privilege of kicking you once.”
When I was eleven, I had virus pneumonia and whisperings around me let me know people wondered if I might die. I coughed a lot, grew emaciated and hollow-eyed. When my parents took me to a doctor, he started me on penicillin injections weekly for a while. I was told not to carry my baby brothers under any circumstances, just rest. Any eleven-year-old is going to get tired of that kind of life, especially since my treatment was to be for three whole months. For the first time in my life, I knew boredom. It was probably the only time I could not look around and figure out something to do.
With the assignment for BLOGGING 201: SET THREE GOALS the class is to brainstorm and actually write down three things we plan to carry through. My own plans are gradually developing as I choose various topics and the categories I plan to use for those.
My main goal right now is actually learning to set up a blog so that it has a future. Randomness is not my style, so this site needs to be arranged in such a way that it can be useful to me for a very long time. Little by little that seems to be happening.
