THE DEAD SEA (Borrowed and Revised)

I’m often reminded of a hymn about the Dead Sea which congregations used to sing regularly, but because of 1 Corinthians 14:34 and 1 Timothy 2:11-12 they have been more careful about singing it in mixed groups.  Even though women’t groups could still use it when they are gathered, they rarely do for some reason.

If you have studied about the Dead Sea, you know it is 1,401 feet below sea level—the lowest land elevation on earth. It receives water from the Sea of Galilee by way of the Jordan River, but because nothing around it is lower, it never passes on the water it receives.  This hymn reveals such an obvous truth—a truth many today do not like.

I WILL GIVE THANKS UNTO THEE, OH LORD

I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord…

“And David spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul” (2 Sam. 22:1).

This passage begins the same as Psalm 18:1-50, word for word except for the formatting, which was done by men in the early 18th century. 2 Sam 22:1 is unique in that it repeats the title.
