BLOGGING 101: Day 2–Say Your Name and Other VIP Information

Today (Tuesday) began more than 13.5 hours ago for me.  I hope yours starts off as well as mine has.

When I chose the name “LESSONS LEARNED” for my blog it was after about two years of being frustrated with a theme and a name someone chose for me because I was a female.  True, I am blogging for ladies, but the female title and design somehow did not suit me or the material I had in mind to present.

My title, LESSONS LEARNED, should reflect what I have finally been able to learn about what to do and what not to do in blogging, and even lessons learned in life.  There is a whole world of ideas in that last one!  😉

That being said, I move on to another suggestion for today’s post.  It has to do with planning the blog’s contents before you choose a theme.  This is probably the greatest need I have right now.  I usually deal with deeper studies for young and old, those studying about eternal things.  On another blog I have as many as 20 categories–far too many to add to one menu or even a side bar.  When I thought of trying to change the categories of all those posts to suit a new theme, I felt overwhelmed.  They really need to have two to three parent categories with drop down menus, similar to the ones featured in the following WordPress.com article:

I want to work toward setting up this blog with better planning if my theme allows.

On to the more frivolous information…  Adjectives that describe me personally might begin with the definition of my first name–headstrong.  My second name means dedicated to God and my maiden name meant bird.  My married name for the past 52 years is an Anglicized version of a Danish name “Soren’s son.”  I am told there were also Soren’s daughters, but they slipped through the cracks somewhere.   I suppose if I add all this together I might be something like “a headstrong bird, dedicated to God.”  Well, maybe that is stretching it a bit.

BLOGGING 101: Day One Introductions

I want to experiment with another type of format this time.Power OutageActually this is part of my introduction since this is how I live many days; however, one thing that can’t be done by candlelight is blogging or surfing the net for ideas.

You may notice that my time stamp is not North America anywhere.  I am in Asia.

Still I am here:  http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_assignment/101-introduce/

Uneasy Beginning

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_assignment/101-introduce/

I am truly a newbie to blogging even though I have had two blogs for several years.  When I began, I thought it would be a simple process and have found it is not.  Sure, composing a post is not so bad, but writing for readers is quite another thing.  My hope is to learn to do one blog the right way and perhaps adjust my older two to be better at the same time.

Questions I should answer:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?

I had reserved this blog for experimenting and it was private, now I need to use it to learn from this course.

  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?

I should write about whatever I am assigned to write in order to learn what I need to know.

  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?

My hope is to connect to other ladies who have the same interest as I have.

  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

I hope to learn the basics and thus not embarrass myself in how I present my content to my readers.

THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK (part 2)

Occasionally The Institute of Creation Research will publish an article by one of the better known scientists who have defended the Creationist view against the Evolutionists. The article below, about a specific Bible topic, was written by one such scholar, Henry Morris, author of The Genesis Flood.

THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK (part 1)

“The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” (Psalm 110:4)

The importance of this verse is indicated both by the fact that it is a Psalm, which is quoted at least 12 times in the New Testament. This verse is also central to the main theme of Hebrews, chapters 5–7. It is quoted no fewer than five times in the book Hebrews. Melchizedek (spelled Melchisedec in the New Testament) is mentioned nine times. It refers to the strange appearance in Genesis 14:18-20. The Lord makes the point that when Melchizedek’s name is translated, he is the “King of Righteousness.” When the remainder of his description, the “King of Salem,” is translated, he is also the King of “Peace.” Some claim that Salem was a former name of Jerusalem, but there is no evidence to make such an assumption. Such hardly does justice to the exalted descriptions of Melchizedek in Scripture. He is the “priest of the most high God” (Heb. 7:1), suddenly appearing, and then disappearing as mysteriously as he came.
