But they that wait upon the Lord . . . mount up with wings as eagles (Isa. 40:31).
There is none like Him; None can compare;
No god His equal, no prince His heir!
Lift up your eyes and see His great might!
Soar like an Eagle, on wings of flight!
Chorus:
Saints, lift your voices, tho’ dark your days!
Lift up your spirits, sing out His praise!
Upward the calling, brighter the light!
Soaring like eagles, on wings of flight!
Have you not known Him? Have you not heard?
God is Creator of all the earth.
Lift up your eyes and see His great might!
Soar like an Eagle, on wings of flight!
Chorus
Some will grow weary; Sin they’ll pursue.
Servants of God their pow’r He’ll renew.
Upward the calling, brighter the light!
Soaring like eagles, on wings of flight!
Chorus
Accapella singing Saints Lift Your Voices
What good thoughts! God really is wise to tell us to sing, even if it were strictly for our own benefit. (Deut 31:19-21, Ps 59, Ps 92, Ps 119:54-55, James 5:13) The tunes keep the words in our hearts. It helps us to think more of the kinds of things we’re supposed to (Phil 4:8).
I especially like the context of this passage in Isaiah 40 – He is so kind to show us the tip of his glory by his creation, so we cannot deny His existence, and so we’ll think on His authority and consider His greatness, and our complete dependence on Him. On those days that are “dark,” do we feel like God cannot see our way, and notice our suffering? Do we feel life’s circumstances are not fair? (v 27). Is it God’s absence or powerlessness or lack of care that we are suffering, or it it because of His loving kindness? (Ps 107:1-43, especially note v 43)
Only a couple of nights ago I was walking and noticed the sky so FULL of stars, some so bright I wondered if they were really stars or something much closer. In Isaiah 40:26 God commands us to look up and notice the innumerable host of heaven, and tells us He created them and calls them ALL by NAME!!! If He is that powerful, that not one fails, then is He powerless to know what suffering we can handle, and to give us what trials we need and then to provide the strength we need for those challenges? Even the strength of youth will fail, but if we have faith enough to depend and wait on the Lord to help us, He is ABLE! He will DO it! (1 Cor 10:13, 1 Thes 5:23-24)
Isaiah 40:25-31
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high,
and behold who hath created these things,
that bringeth out their host by number:
he calleth them all by names
by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power;
not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel,
My way is hid from the Lord,
and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard,
that the everlasting God, the Lord,
the Creator of the ends of the earth,
fainteth not, neither is weary?
there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint;
and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.
