HOPES FOR A PRODUCTIVE DAY

As I start to write my To Do List again today, I smile ruefully to myself, half expecting to do anything BUT what’s on it because of the pattern of the last forty-some odd years’ worth of To Do lists. I may be a slow learner, but there are things you begin to see when they are repeated time and time again. A To Do List is only a Hopeful List, not a list of what your day will really bring. ‘Thought provoking, isn’t it? Can we just “decide” to do anything, and then count on it? (James 4:13-15)

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

A divining mirror on the wall usually performs for those who want to be beautiful–possibly the most beautiful of all. But is beauty or race what makes us who we are? Does the physical body define the soul? Are physical qualities anywhere near as important as the spiritual (inner man)? As I approach 80, I struggle to see what I am inside more than what I appear to be on the outside.

THE HAND OF GOD: Rahab

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever” (Psa. 136:1).

Let us consider how the Lord has used many people to show us that if we turn to him he will receive us. He warns us about those who do not turn to him: “Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up” (Psa. 28:5). The world entices us to set our affections on the works of men, rather than on God’s. If we are fully involved in the world there will be no time to seek God’s works to do them. How can we find out the works that God does?  God has revealed much of what he has done through the scriptures. Note how many times God used David to point to His works.

Great Expectations

Tell us about one thing (or more) that you promised yourself you’d accomplish by the end of the year. How would you feel once you do? What if you don’t?

My goal has always been to be a better reader.  In college I wanted to read the assigned books with discernment, but ended up skimming to find required information.  I made good grades, so continued that “skimming” habit far too long.  Now my goal is to read more and genuinely search into what I read–dig deeper and mine the gold nuggets.  This would especially apply to my Scripture reading.

A domestic goal is to finish a quilt for each of my children and grandchildren–surely not all of them this year, but at least one a year.  Most quilters quilt so their offspring have a remembrance of them, but my quilts are geared to a specific need the receiver has or to a specific memory.  I have been trying to make the patterns fit the person so that they would be timeless.  A sample of my work and philosophy may be found here:

If I am blessed with good health, I hope to continue my present schedule, following my husband everywhere.  It is easy to see that human lifespan is limited and life is too short to miss a minute with my mate.
